monster, and their sound is a wild, intense blur of bludgeoning rhythms, industrial clatter, scraping guitars and caterwauling vocals. Citing influences as
disparate PiL, Motörhead, US Maple, Suicide, Flipper, The Shaggs and Chrome, A.H. Kraken could implode or explode at any given second. Everything is
yelled in barely intelligible French, so it’s impossible to say what they’re bellowing about, though one song is titled ‘Kevin Costner Est Un Acteur Americain’.
When bassist/vocalist S.J. was asked, he assured that the lyrics are ‘all about peace and love’. Be skeptical. A.H. Kraken are pure, unrestrained throttleburn.
They create landscapes of sound with instruments that are obviously getting the shit beat out of them. This mega-decibel audio destruction at its most
overwrought is not for the faint of heart.

2008 release, the third CD from Philadelphia quartet Fern Knight, led by the crystal voice, guitar, and cello of Margaret Wienk. Drawing from diverse
influences such as ’70s Krautrock, UK folk, and baroque and renaissance music, the band’s eponymous recording juxtaposes the calm surface of harp,
cello, and violin against theperfectly timed distorted squalls of a Flying V and a dark undercurrent of lyrical and vocal mystery. The overall effectis a lush,
pastoral, and warm ode to all things green and living, a running theme that winds through the songs’ post-apocalyptic landscape. The album’s cohesion rests
upon the core quartet’s combination of acoustic and electronic instruments-the perfect vehicle for Wienk’s unique songwriting and string arrangements.

Essie Jain’s stunning new album, The Inbetween, attains a new high point for the songwriter, exploring the nuances of intimacy as she never has before. The
songs are direct and captivating in their honesty and serve to reflect the artful beauty that can result from periods of clarity. Having solidified a fellow group
of musicians, the British-born Jain drew from current challenges in her life. ‘I was in this space where things weren’t ready to take their next shape yet—in
some ways it was a really beautiful experience, because you can’t force things and it nails you down, and in another, you can see the opening into the next
chapter and you can’t reach it,’ she says. Recording with a larger group of musicians, Jain experimented with new ways of orchestrating songs. ‘The record
had a personality that came about and evolved of its own accord, whereas the first record had a tighter lid on it, because I needed it to be a more internal

release to showcase the talents of Steven Stapleton, known not only for his music output as Nurse With Wound but his graphic output as Babs Santini. Chef
Steve painted 100 individually hand painted discs to celebrate the release of the three album set Angry Eelectric Finger. The paint and vinyl was salvaged
from the local landfill site at Inagh, County Clare, Ireland and recycled in Cooloorta during September and November 2004. The paintings were displayed in
Galway, Ireland and Portland, Oregon before being offered for sale.
